Speaking Band 7+: Through the Examiner's Eye

Fluent in English. Stuck at Band 6?

Here's something most Speaking candidates never get told. You can be fluent in English, work in an English-speaking environment, hold effortless conversations with native speakers - and still walk out of the IELTS Speaking test with a Band 6.

The problem is that the examiner isn't scoring what you think she's scoring.

The IELTS Speaking test is built around four specific assessment criteria: Fluency and Coherence, Lexical Resource, Grammatical Range and Accuracy, and Pronunciation. Each one is being scored simultaneously, in real time, every second you're speaking. The examiner is holding four separate scoring frames in her head while you talk. Most candidates have never had these criteria properly explained, never seen what each one rewards at Band 5, Band 7, and Band 9, and never had the chance to grade a real candidate's response against the official descriptors themselves.

They just keep losing marks and don't know why.

This course fixes that. In nine units, you learn to see the Speaking test the way the examiner sees it. You watch real candidate performances across every band from 5 up to 9, mark the descriptor evidence yourself, compare your diagnosis to the official examiner comments, and pick up the specific upgrade moves that push each criterion up a band.

By the end, you can grade a stranger's Speaking response and then grade your own the same way. That's the difference between guessing at what a Band 7 answer looks like and knowing exactly what one sounds like.
